一般描述

The protein encoded by STAG3 gene is expressed in the nucleus, specifically in testis and is a subunit of the cohesin complex which regulates the cohesion of sister chromatids during cell division. The gene has multiple pseudogenes. STAG3 is the only meiosis-specific subunit that is present within all four meiosis-specific cohesin complexes.

生化/生理作用

STAG3 (Stromal antigen 3) gene encodes a meiosis-specific subunit of the cohesin complex that belongs to SCC3 family and is mapped on 7q22 region of chromosome 7. It facilitates the cohesion of sister chromatids after DNA replication during meiosis. STAG3 is expressed specifically in testis and loss of function mutation in the gene results in male infertility.
