Coilin is a protein encoded by the COIL gene in humans. COIL (Coilin) gene encodes a nuclear phosphoprotein localized on to chromosome 17q22-23, which is an integral component of Cajal bodies (also called coiled bodies) and impacts small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) biogenesis.

生化/生理作用

Coilin acts as glue to connect the CB to the nucleolus. It is considered to be the CB marker protein and is essential for proper CB formation and composition in mammalian cells. Coilin levels influences the proliferation rate and cell cycle distribution of cells exposed to etoposide. It facilitates the inhibition of RNA polymerase I during cisplatin-induced DNA damage. Coilin protein is also involved in the processing of human telomerase RNA.
