CLIC1 codes for an intracellular chloride ion channel protein. Studies have reported that oxidized CLIC1 dimers can form chloride ion channels in synthetic vesicles and bilayers. Furthermore, in the absence of detergents, CLIC1 can spontaneously insert into preformed membranes.

Chloride intracellular channel 1 (CLIon Channel1) is a member of the p64 family; the protein localizes principally to the cell nucleus and exhibits both nuclear and plasma membrane chloride ion channel activity.
