The gene GJA10 (gap junction α-10) is mapped to human chromosome 6q15. It is expressed in skeletal muscle, retina and heart. The protein has an amino-terminal cytoplasmic domain, transmembrane domains, a cytoplasmic loop and a carboxyl-terminal cytosolic domain.(4) GJA10 is commonly referred to as CX62 (connexin-62).

GJA10 (gap junction α-10) is a component of hemichannels, which compose the gap junctions. Gap junctions are important for direct communication between adjacent cells, which allow exchange of metabolites, ions, second messengers, water and electrical impulses.
