The gene ITPR2 (Inositol 1,4,5-Triphosphate Receptor type 2) encodes type 2 intracellular receptor that binds to Inositol 1,4,5 trisphosphate. The gene encodes a 2701 amino acid protein that contains six membrane-spanning regions near the C-termini. The cytoplasmic N-terminal domain is involved in ligand-binding. The gene is mapped to human chromosome 12p11.

生化/生理作用

The receptor encoded by the gene ITPR2 (Inositol 1,4,5-Triphosphate Receptor type 2) is a Ca²⁺release channel in the endoplasmic reticulum that is stimulated upon binding to its ligand inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate. It mediates intracellular calcium signaling. It facilitates the release of Ca²⁺from endoplasmic reticulum and modulates intracellular Ca²⁺concentration. Loss of ITPR2 gene function is found to be associated with anhidrosis and can inhibit sweat production in humans and mice.
