A1CF (apobec-1 complementation factor) codes for apolipoprotein B mRNA editing enzyme, catalytic polypeptide 1 (APOBEC1). It is a member of the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNP) family. A1CF has three non-identical RNA recognition motifs (RRM) and a unique C-terminal auxiliary domain.

A1CF (apobec-1 complementation factor) modulates expression of the gene by regulating the constancy of mRNA and RNA editing. It plays a vital role in the synthesis of ApoB (both isoforms ApoB-48 and ApoB-100). Overexpression of APOBEC-1 in transgenic animals results in liver dysplasia.
