C16:0 Ceramide (d18:2(4E,8Z)/16:0) orN-palmitoyl- D -erythro-sphingosine (d18:2(4E,8Z) base) is a long chain ceramide derived from sphingosine containing two double bonds with palmitic acid. C16:0 Ceramide synthesis is catalyzed by the enzyme ceramide synthase 6 (CerS6).

生化/生理作用

C16:0-ceramide facilitates obesity-related insulin resistance. It exhibits pro-apoptotic function. Elevated levels of C16:0-ceramide has been observed in adipose tissue of obese patients.
