The inhibitor of DNA-binding/differentiation 3 (Id3) protein is a helix-loop-helix transcription factor. This gene is located on human chromosome 1p36.
Members of the ID family of helix-loop-helix (HLH) proteins lack a basic DNA-binding domain and inhibit transcription through formation of nonfunctional dimers that are incapable of binding to DNA.[supplied by OMIM]

The inhibitor of DNA-binding/differentiation 3 (Id3) is expected to play a major role in cell proliferation and differentiation. Overexpression of Id3 stimulates apoptosis in A549/DDP human lung cancer cellsin vitro.
