一般描述

Aspartic acid (Asp) is a non-essential amino acid. It makes up to 5% of the amino acids in a protein. The GAC and GAU codons encode Asp. This is a chiral molecule and occurs in two enantiomers namely L -Asp and D -Asp.

L -Aspartic acid has been used:

as a metabolite to study the enzyme–metabolite interactions in the central metabolism ofEscherichia coliby nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)
