RARS1 (Arginyl-TRNA Synthetase 1, also known as HLD9) is a Protein Coding gene. The RARS gene, located on 5q34, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, fruit fly, mosquito, C.elegans, A.thaliana, rice, and frog. Prototypic hypomyelinating leukodystrophy 9 (HLD9) is an autosomal recessive disorder responsible for the gene differing from the plp1 gene. The hld9 gene encodes arginyl-tRNA synthetase (RARS), which belongs to a family of cytoplasmic aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases. RARS1 is widely expressed in the duodenum, small intestine, and other tissues. Diseases associated with RARS1 include Leukodystrophy, Hypomyelinating, 9, and Embryonal Carcinoma. Among its related pathways are tRNA Aminoacylation and Viral mRNA Translation. An important paralog of this gene is RARS2.
