Urobilin is a byproduct of hemoglobin degradation.1It is formedviaoxidation of the bilirubin metabolite urobilinogen and is excreted in both urine and feces by mammals, including humans. Urobilin has been used as a marker of human waste contamination in recreational and source waters.
